Demo @ 10-1:30pm: Come play with VR headsets!
Location: Common Room
Exhibitors: Richard Smith, Technology Support Officer - Radcliffe Science Library, Mattia Montanari, Postdoc Researcher - Impact Engineering Lab, Oxford University
Moderator: Dina Nadeem
Ever wondered what else a VR headset could be useful for? Want to create your own VR images or videos? Want to incorporate VR in your EP project but don't know how?
Did you know the Bodleian Library has VR equipment students can use? Don't worry - you don't need to go all the way there, we have asked them to come to SBS! Just come down to the Common Room to check out what VR equipment you can access for free as an Oxford Student. The VR and AR Oxford Hub will also demonstrate some of their advanced VR equipment.
The VR and AR Oxford Hub brings together people, knowledge and resources related to VR (virtual reality) and AR (augmented reality) technologies. This Hub aims to promote the exchange of information within Oxford; externally, the Hub wants to engage with companies and other institutions.
Lunch Demo @ 12:15-1:30pm: Behind the scenes - How movies make magic!
Location: Seminar Room A
Speaker: Simon Legrand
Have you watched Avatar, Star Wars, Transformers?
Come meet Simon Legrand who has worked on CGI special effects on all these films. He will be doing a live demo using the same motion capture technology used in the films above to record actions of human actors, and using that information to animate digital characters with computer animation.
Lunch will be provided.
